It's amazing how much progress one can make on a sweater when one actually has time to knit said sweater (and isn't distracted by a billion other projects).

Bleak Mid-Winter Knitting?

I need help. I cannot motivate myself to finish my mittens! There is no good reason for it either, they are a perfectly good pair of mittens.

Is anyone going to be at knitting tonight? If the weather turns awful, I may not make it, but I'm punting on that decision right now.

Right now, I can concentrate on Civil Procedure for about 90 seconds at a time. The only thing that's getting me through is the promise that if I finish on time, I get to knit tonight.

Dudes. I had a final yesterday and my next paper isn't due until Monday and I am so excited to come to knitting that I have TWO (2) sweaters to cast on and I am posting before 8am.

Consider this my apology for not being at knitting tonight. Nicholas signed us up for a kitchen design course.

Knitting retreat, anyone?

Hey, dudes. So I think I've told some of you, but I'm going to Iceland for a knitting retreat with Ysolda Teague as the guest teacher. Tour Linky I know nothing about Icelandic knitting, but I'm hoping to make up for it through sheer enthusiasm.

And I heard there are still a few spots open on the tour, so if you're in need of a vacation (I *so* need one), you should come with me. Three words: Geothermal hot tub!

But, it's at the Textile Center, and parking will be weird, and dude... strangers.

Adventures in Sizing

There is nothing quite like the realization that you have to make a bigger size, and thus need more yarn. Sigh. Thankfully, The Yarnery is awesome and not only still has what I need in my dye lot, they are holding it for me to pickup tonight.

If, after I drive from S Mpls to the cute part of St Paul, if I feel like trekking back over to near downtown Mpls, then I will be at knitting. It's likely, I think. However, I will not be there as early as I usually am.

I felt the urge to change my ravelry name. It's sparklemotion now, which matches better with other things that I do on these here internets.

I guess this is the best place to announce it to the people who might care.

I am also glad that the process didn't involve a visit to the social security office.

Man Down

I think I am our first olympic casualty.

I sat on a DPN. It went an inch into my thigh. Nicholas had to pull it out because it was too deep for me to do. Then the nice doctor at Allina Shoreview irrigated my wound. So it's clean now, but the cleaning solution is oozing out of my thigh.

In a word, gross.

I am not sure if i can make it tonight. It depends on if my laundry is done and if i have time to get in the shower. if i go, it probably won't be til after 6:30 or 7.

knitters! i hope you are doing well and staying safe from this perilous weather of late. i HOPE to be in shape to attend knitting this tuesday, because i miss you all dreadfully. of course, i will see most of you at opening ceremonies for knitting olympics, rite? rite???

speaking of knitting olympics, i have decided on a project. i'm madly in love with the knit picks kettle dyed stroll, and have decided to turn my stash into a collection of garter-stitch shawls. this one just came out, i love it, it must be mine! this presents a few choices.

the yardage for the medium is about 400 yards. my skein of stroll is 462. no problem! except, i'd prefer to make the large. yardage needed: 500 yards? my choices are these:

a) knit the medium
b) knit the large at a smaller gauge
c) order two skeins of the same color and hope they arrive in time for opening ceremonies
d) knit the border in another color entirely ew no

my stash includes the eggplant and bordeaux; i am wondering if it would be nice in goldenrod which is why i'm considering placing another order anyway. decisions, decisions. what do you think?

Good news/Bad news

Bad: I must, without question, go to school tomorrow night to pickup my algebra book and then do homework. I cannot attend knitting. Even worse: I have Knit Picks with me and won't be able to drop it off.

Good: I had our Knit Picks order in FOUR DAYS OMG WHOA. And, I will be home ALL WEEK next week. So, if anybody wants to stop by and pick it up... I'll be here.

this is just getting silly

I thought the whole point of measuring temperature in Fahrenheit was so that you didn't need to deal with negative numbers. Eesh.

It's a good thing that we know how to knit stuff to keep us warm.
