Jumi + Crazy Aunt Purl = Pix

PIX!

This is the picture that I took with Laurie's camera. It was funny how Jumi and I never fail to be socially awkward. It seemed like I spent a substantial portion of time in line begging Jumi not to make me show Laurie the sweater I was making (I was working on the fair isle part during the reading). As per my normal behavior, I did not speak during the meet & greet because everyone must've already asked her any question I could've come up with. What was I supposed to say? If you could be any type of furniture, what would you be and why???

Early Status Post

I am going to be a total wet towel and play hooky AGAIN this week, mostly because there is not enough time for us to finish all our pumpkins before Weds evening at this point. SIGH. I miss you guys! I also miss knitting, I've made very little progress with my sweater since the bobbins are giving me trouble and I have to redo all that nonsense.

Someone should bring some scrap yarn and spare needles in case Jumi's friend from the Halloween party shows up though! Either way, I will bring some of that with me next week.

Maybe I do want a pair of All-Stars after all.

Gratuitous use of yarn here.

Is calling them Chuck Taylors an american thing? It took me a while to figure out what a Chuck Taylor was after moving here.

For people who don't read the comments - no knitting tonight, only fighting.

I'm out for FightKnitting this week, for many many reasons including but not limited to finances, contacts to pick up, PMS, and David Boreanaz in geek glasses.

Sweater Swatch

I figured it out. Sort of.

Stranded knitting in cotton is kind of hard.

PS How long have I been trying to put an "e" in cotton? WTF? I guess I'm uncomfortable with six letter words that only have four unique letters. I keep staring at it and it isn't looking any more correct with an "o".

Sweater Update

Basically, I think I'm in trouble. I'm trying to swatch the fair isle part. Or stranded part. Whatever the term, it isn't getting any easier.

The internet says use wool.
I'm using cotten.

The internet says don't pick patterns where you float the yarn more than 6 stitches.
At one point, I float 9.

The internet says don't pick patterns where there are a lot of orphan stitches.
Yeah, mine has a lot of single colors.

Also, they're telling me to knit in the round. The pattern doesn't translate that well. I think. Maybe?

fight knitting vocabulary word of the week

merkin: a public wig worn by prostitutes after shaving their genitalia to eliminate lice or to disguise the marks of syphillis.

Thanks Will!

Tuesday Power!

Amber's out, I feel somewhat better than last week. Shall we knit?

p.s. Jen, this has nothing to do with knitting but I wanted to share.

It's everything I could've dreamed it was and more.

It came on the Yarn Shop Hop Friday. It was definitely definitely The Best Day Ever 2007. I'm exhausted from all the fun.

This is NaKniSweMo

National Knit A Sweater Month is next month. This is the sweater I'm knitting. It's from Vogue Knitting's Holiday 2006 issue. See that fair isle in the picture? Are you curious about the chart?

The much more economical yarn I chose is Lara from elann.com. The greens are perfect, the purple is a little off, and I got the last acceptable ball of red that they had. Exciting! Especially considering the original plan was to do this in KnitPick's Sport Shine.

I've never done fair isle before. I've never done a sweater before. I'm knitting this in sport weight. I think living on my own has addled my brain.

A thing of grate beauty.

Tuesday Already?

Guys, I feel like [expletive deleted]. There's a very good chance that I won't last through the work day, and it's highly unlikely that I'll be at knitting.

The KnitPicks order did come in though, I left Amber and Jen's yarn with Amber to take tonight.

Homework: Pac-Man

Wikipedia Entry

Ghosts: Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde

No eyes in the original game. It was just a yellow puck (original name Puck-Man) with an opening for the mouth.

I concur with Jumi that the eye would've been just to bothersome to program.

tonight...

The consensus is to remain at Loring Park this week.

I have exciting new knitting books!
